The phone call took place days after the US Commerce Dep

artment announced on Wednesday it will add telecommunications eq

uipment maker Huawei and its affiliates to the Entity List on Wednesday. Being on the list

bars the company from buying US technology without government approval due to security concerns.

On the same day, US President Donald Trump signed an executive order that bars US companies fr

om using telecom equipment from manufacturers considered a national security risk, without mentioning Huawei by name.

Such moves, as well as the increase of tariffs on $200 billion worth of Chinese goods earlier this m

China has always believed in and hoped to solve trade differences thr

During the recent holiday, it was one of the most popular tourist spots amo

Worst example of anti-China prejudice

One of the worst examples of anti-China prejudices comes from a bo

ok written by a professor of public ethics, Clive Hamilton-Silent Invasion published in earl

y 2018. On pages 280-281 Hamilton writes that up to 40 percent of the Chinese in Australia are disloyal. Speci

fically, he says they are ready “to take to the streets to express their loyalty to Beijing-in other words, to Australia’s enemy”.

Artificial intelligence will bring about changes as fundamental as t

hose enabled by electrification, argues Li Kaifu, Chinese artificial intelligence specialist and fo

under of the venture capital firm Sinovation Ventures. He says that China is leading in real-world applications of AI to bus

inesses, factories and cities, and is catching up with the United States in basic research.

Li’s technological optimism contrasts with a widespread pessi

mism about technology prevalent among thinkers from Silicon Valley.

For example, famed venture capitalist Peter Theil uses the slogan “We wanted flying cars, ins

tead we got 140 characters” as the subtitle of his investment fund. In many interviews, he ha

s explained that we’ve seen “innovation in the world of bits, but not in the world of atoms”.

know how to protect their rights and interests through the internet and report infringements.

According to the report, 91.9 percent learn relative legal knowledge through offline means, and 72.3 percent learn legal knowledge through the internet.

The report suggests that the regulations on protecting minor netizens should be legislated as soon

as possible. Authorities should enhance content supervision and industry management, regulating ente

Preparatory tests for manned space station mission to star

China will start launching preparatory tests for its manned space station

mission in the second half of this year, according to the China Manned Space Agency.

The agency said in a statement on Monday that the core module of the space station, a Long M

arch 5B carrier rocket and payloads to be carried by the rocket’s maiden flight will be transported to the Wen

chang Space Launch Site in the island province of Hainan in the second half of 2019 to conduct joint tests and drills.

After those tests and drills, the Long March 5B rocket will carry out its debut flight at the Wen

chang site at a proper time, the agency said, without giving an exact time for the launch.

Sources close to China’s manned space program said that after the maiden flight, Long March 5B will be tasked with lifting part

s of the nation’s first manned space station into space where those parts will be assembled by astronauts.

Currently, the space station’s core module and a Long March 5B are under construct

on, the agency said, adding that it is also selecting and training astronauts for this mission.

Trade talks expected to finalize dealNG SHUIYU,ZHONG NA

China and the United States are expected to come to an agreement soon over trade frictions, analysts said, as the negotiating teams a

They made the prediction after Chinese and US officials said there had been concrete p

During the latest talks, held from Thursday to Sunday in Washington, the seventh round since February of last year, th

e two sides focused on the text of an agreement, the Chinese delegation said, according to a Xinhua News Agency report.

The negotiators also had made substantial progress on such specific issues as technology transfers, protection of i

Over the next four days, about 100,000 people in Barcelona are expected to traipse through the halls of Mobile Worl

One company really stands out this year: China’s Huawei. Walking

out of the Barcelona airport, there’s a Huawei hospitality stand. The company’s bran

There’s a good reason everyone is focused on Huawei, one of the world’s largest makers of telecom equipment.

Huawei is a crucial part of China’s efforts to advance superfast 5G wir

eless networks and today is caught in a life or death battle with the US government.

The United States claims that Huawei poses a potential national security threat. Last month, US prosecutors revealed cri

Mueller, who was appointed in May 2017, is looking into the alleged Russian interference in the 2016 US presidential election a

nd any potential collusion between the Trump campaign and Moscow, among other matters that may arise from the investigation.

His team has indicted or gotten guilty pleas from 34 people, including several former Trump campaign aides and two dozen Russians, and three companies.

Trump has repeatedly dismissed any collusion between his campaign and Mo

Last month, Mueller arrested Roger Stone, a longtime Trump associate, on charges o

f obstruction, witness tampering and making false statements to Congress.

As to Stone, the president told CBS in the interview that the 66-year-old veteran political ope

rative “didn’t work on the campaign” except at its onset. The president also said he hasn’t thought about pardoning Stone.
